    About ILSI  
   
Institute of Labour Studies, Islamabad (ILSI) was founded in November 2005 as a private and independent institute to provide education, training and consultancy and undertake research, studies, surveys, and projects in labour fields such as labour policy, labour laws, labour administration, labour relations/industrial relations, labour welfare, labour disputes settlement/labour judiciary, international labour standards, workers education, management development, women workers & gender, child labour, forced/bonded labour, poverty, skills training & employment, occupational safety & health, workers social security, decent work, contract workers, migrant workers, refugee workers, labour trafficking, workers protection from HIV AIDS, special workers with disability, retirees, workers conditions of service, wages & salary surveys, corporate social responsibility, privatization, globalization, labour dialogue, tripartism & bipartism, etc.

ILSI educational programmes would be through distance learning system in both English and Urdu languages and would include Diplomas in Labour Management, Labour-Management Relations, Industrial Relations, Labour Laws, Labour Productivity, Labour Representation/Labour Leadership, Labour Inspection, Labour Welfare, Workers Occupational Safety & Health, Wages & Salary Surveys, and Corporate Social Responsibility Survey, etc. Master and Ph.D. programmes in Industrial Relations through thesis/dissertation would be included.

ILSI would provide certification on yearly basis as “ILSI Certified” to interested companies particularly export-oriented after their workplace survey & evaluation resulting in their meeting corporate social responsibility following relevant labour standards. ILSI would provide consultancy to interested companies especially multinationals and joint ventures on any labour issue.

ILSI Founder and Director is Dr. Basharat Ahmad. He is retired Senior Programme Officer of International Labour Organisation, ILO Office, Islamabad where he worked for over 27 years and had been involved in ILO programmes and activities and projects with the ILO tripartite constituents in Pakistan i.e. Government, Employers, and Workers Organisations. He had necessary training from ILO Regional Office for Asia & Pacific, Bangkok, ILO Headquarters, Geneva, and ILO International Training Centre, Turin. He got Recognition Award for his long service and dedication with the ILO from the ILO Director General, ILO Headquarters, Geneva. He is M.A. in Political Science, L.L.B., M.B.A. in General Management, and Ph.D. in Public Administration. His M.B.A. dissertation was “Industrial Relations System in Pakistan” and Ph.D. dissertation was “Labour Administration in Pakistan” (covering labour policies, labour laws, labour administration, labour relations, labour welfare, labour judiciary, and employment policy). He is a Social Accountability, SA 8000 Auditor from the Social Accountability International, SAI, New York. He is a Salary Survey Specialist. He had been elected Representative of Staff and Officers of the ILO and UN Organisations & Agencies at Pakistan, Asia & Pacific Region, and International level. He is a UN Pensioner.
